Manual Migration Tips

This guide includes manual migration tips for users who are planning to manually migrate content to their new Fresco site (by copying/pasting content and uploading images).

1) Removing formatting when pasting copied text

When you copy content from your previous website (e.g., Mosaic), hidden formatting comes with it. This can conflict with the new website’s styles and cause display issues such as inconsistent fonts or text sizes.

2) Uploading an image to Fresco and changing image dimensions

When images are uploaded to listings on a page, the image focal point may point to the wrong area of the image. Sometimes this can result in cut-off text or faces.

This is especially useful for listings with images of faces or text, so they don't get cut off.

3) Creating and using a template

Page templates allow editors to quickly build consistent new pages by providing a reusable structure. They are particularly useful for maintaining uniformity across pages that require a repeatable format, such as creating researcher profiles using the "Person" content type.

Templates can be created to preserve either the full content, which includes placeholder text and guidance for other editors, or just the layout structure.

4) Creating a custom header for specific microsite

Custom headers allow specific sub-sites or sections to maintain a distinct identity while remaining linked to a parent site. They are particularly useful for sub-sections that require unique branding, specific navigation menus, or different contact details than the main site. By using the Microsite layout, you can differentiate a sub-site's visual identity while ensuring it adheres to standardised University templates.

5) Following Fresco's heading hierarchy guidelines

Following a structured heading hierarchy will ensure that your site is accessible to screen readers and optimised for search engine performance whilst generally making it easier for users to read and navigate your content.

6) Using node links

When copying and pasting content onto Fresco, you must ensure that all internal links point to Fresco rather than Mosaic to avoid having any broken links on your pages.
